dc.description.abstract Background: Hypertension is a serious medical condition that significantly increases the risks of heart, brain, kidney, and other diseases. Hypertension is a major reason for premature death worldwide and it is the one from targeted non-communicable disease by 2025. Africa has the highest prevalence of hypertension (27%) and the Ethiopian non-communicable disease and injuries report nationally prevalence of hypertension 16%. Objective: To assess prevalence of hypertension and associated factors among adults in Debre Berhan town, Amhara region, Ethiopia, 2020. Methods: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted. Kebeles were selected by simple random sampling method and households from each kebele were selected by systematic sampling technique. A semi-structured Amharic version questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were checked, cleaned, and entered Epi-data then exported to spss-23. Binary logistic regression analysis was done to identify factors associated with hypertension. All variables with p-value < 0.25 on bivariate result were taken into the multivariable model to control the possible confounders. Finally, variables with 95%CI and at P-value <0.05 considered as statistically significant. Result: From 680 participants, the prevalence of hypertension were 27.5%. The socio-demographic characteristics sex being male (AOR: 1.77, 95% CI: 1.12-2.81), behavioral characteristics alcohol consumption (AOR: 2.76:95% CI: 1.87-4.05), physical exercise (AOR: 2.17, 95% CI: 1.28-3.71), health related factors like Body mass index (AOR: 1.99, 95% CI: 1.11-3.58), and family history of hypertension (AOR: 2.10, 95% CI: 1.43-3.08) were significantly associated with hypertension. Conclusion and recommendation: Prevalence of hypertension in Debre Berhan town were relatively higher as compared as other literatures. So it is better to emphasizing intervention in the community for behavioral character change to moderation in alcohol consumption, to adapt regular physical exercise. en_US
