The Effect of Flexible Working Arrangements on Employee Performance: The Case of Private Banks in Debre Berhan Town
Zemed, Weldemedhin
The main objective of this study was to examine the effect of flexible working arrangements on
employee performance in the case of a private bank Share Company in Debre Berhan Town. The
researcher identifies five key flexible working arrangement dimensions as independent variables
these are work shift, flextime, flexi place, part-time working, and temporary contract. The
researcher used a quantitative approach. Besides, a descriptive and explanatory research design
was used. The study population includes 708 employees, from those 256 employees’ were
selected and given questionnaires out of which 251 correctly filled and returned questionnaires
were used for analysis purposes. Stratified sampling technique to select private banks in Debre
Berhan Town. Then, after the sample size of each stratum was calculated, a simple random
sampling method was used to select respondents from each stratum. Data was analyzed by using
descriptive statistics including means, standard deviation, and inferential statistics to analyze
and interpret the gathered data. Data was analyzed with the help of Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26. Pearson’s Correlation test statistics were applied to test the
relationship between dependent and independent variables. Inferential statistical tools like
multiple linear regressions were used. Regression model was applied to show the effect of
flexible working arrangements on employee performance. The main findings indicate that work
shifts, flextime, flexi place, and part-time work have statistically significant effects on employee
performance. However, temporary contract has a positive and insignificant effect on employee
performance. Flexi place is the most powerful significant variable that has a greater regression
coefficient than others. The researcher concluded that flexible working arrangement practice
significantly contributes to employee performance in private banks in Debre Berhan Town.

THE ROLE OF DAIRY COOPERATIVES ON MARKET-ORIENTED SMALLHOLDERS’ DEVELOPMENT: THE CASE OF SIX DAIRY COOPERATIVES, IN DEBRE BIRHAN RIJOPOLITAN CITY ADMINISTRATIO
YONAS, TEKLE
The main purpose of this research was to examine the role of dairy cooperatives on the
market-oriented smallholder development in the case of selected six dairy cooperatives in
the Debre Berhan Rijopolitan City Administration. It investigated the influence of six
dimensions of dairy cooperatives including the strength of dairy cooperatives, support
from government and donors, market conditions, access to markets, access to credit, and
training on market-oriented smallholders development. The study employed a
mixed-methods approach, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data collection
techniques. The study population includes 349 members, from which 342 members were
selected and given questionnaires out of which 342 correctly filled and returned
questionnaires were used for the analysis purposes. The collected data were analyzed
using SPSS version 25 and an overall analysis was performed using descriptive statistical
analysis, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. The descriptive statistics result
showed that the member's perception regarding the strength of dairy cooperatives,
support from government and donors, market conditions, access to markets, access to
credit, and training were excellent or very good and their market-oriented smallholder's
development level falls between often to very often. The result of correlation analysis
showed that all six dimensions of dairy cooperatives were significantly and strongly
related to their market-oriented smallholder development. Finally, the regression
analysis indicated that access to credit dominantly influenced market-oriented
smallholders' development followed by the strength of dairy cooperatives and then thirdly
support from government and donors which were statistically significant at a 5% margin
of error level. The researcher suggested that since the role of dairy cooperatives,
including the strength of dairy cooperatives, support from government and donors,
market conditions, access to markets, access to credit, and training, has a significant role
in the market-oriented smallholder's development, it was recommended that Debre
Berhan city administration management should try to promote collaboration between
dairy cooperatives, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance market
linkages and access to finance for smallholders. Future research could replicate and
extend this study by adding other variables and samples from different members to offer a
better understanding of the role of dairy cooperatives in fostering market-oriented
smallholder development.

THE EFFECT OF MICRO FINANCE INSTITUTION ON THE SUSTAINABLE GROWTH OF MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISE IN DEBRE BIRHAN REGIO-POLITAN CITY
Wondwesen, Azemerew
Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are a basic source of income and employment
opportunities also MFIs have a potential impact on achieving many of the sustainable growths of
the enterprise. This study aimed to investigate the effect of microfinance interventions on the
sustainable growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Debre birhan
Regio-politan city. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, including a descriptive
and explanatory research design, with a target population of 10,570 enterprises. The sampling
technique involved stratified random sampling for MSMEs and judgmental sampling for the
selection of microfinance institution managers. Data collection instruments comprised semi-
structured questionnaires and interviews, with reliability and validity testing conducted to ensure
the robustness of the research instruments. Data analysis techniques encompassed descriptive
and inferential statistics, including mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation, and multiple
regression analysis using SPSS version 23. The study achieved an 80% response rate, providing
comprehensive insights into the factors influencing the sustainable growth of MSMEs. The
study's findings indicate that business management training, financial literacy training, loan
availability, entrepreneurship development and saving, in descending order, have significant
positive effects on the sustainable growth of MSMEs in Debre birhan Regio-politan city based on
their standardized beta values. Based on the result it is recommended that microfinance
institutions focus on enhancing loan provision, entrepreneurship training, business management
skill training and financial literacy skill training to better support the sustainable growth of
MSMEs. Tailoring interventions to local contexts and addressing specific needs of MSMEs is
crucial for strengthening the support for MSME sustainable growth and contributing to the
economic development of Debre birhan Regio-politan city.

The Effect of Core Banking Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction: The Case Study of Abay Bank Branches in North Shoa Zone
Tsegaie, Seife
This study aimed to investigate the effect of quality core banking service on customer satisfaction in
Abay bank branches located in North Shoa Zone. A quantitative research approach was adopted,
utilizing structured questionnaires as the primary source of data. The study employed both descriptive
and explanatory research designs. Sample respondents were selected using judgmental sampling
technique, followed by convenience sampling technique. The overall response rate for the survey
questionnaires was 83.63 %. Descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, were
computed, and inferential statistics, such as Pearson Correlation and multiple linear regressions,
were employed for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed a significant positive relationship
between the five explanatory variables (assurance, empathy, reliability, responsiveness and
tangibility) and customer satisfaction. Moreover, the multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS
reveals that empathy has the strongest influence on customer satisfaction, followed by responsiveness,
reliability, assurance, and tangibility at the study area. Based on the findings, it is recommended that
Abay Bank focuses on enhancing their empathy skills, as it has the strongest effect on customer
satisfaction. Additionally, efforts should be made to improve responsiveness, reliability, assurance,
and tangibility to further enhance customer satisfaction levels in their branches in the North Shoa
Zone.
